Policies and Procedures

Welcome to Growing Minds Christian Academy!

Our commitment is to provide a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for your child. To ensure the best experience for our children and their families, we have established the following policies and procedures.

Admission Policy:

Age Requirements: We accept children from 3 to 5 years of age. Children are required to be 3 years of age by September 15th of the current year to be admitted to Growing Minds Christian Academy. Families can enroll their child in either AM or PM sessions. 3 year olds will only be admitted to the AM session.

Enrollment Process: Growing Minds Christian Academy is open to all children, however, families must align with our Christian values. We have a selective enrollment process that ensures that we are the right fit for your family and your child’s developmental journey. We invite families to submit an application so we can learn more about your child and determine how we can best support their growth in a Christ-centered environment. Following the application, an interview is required.

Orientation: We offer an orientation session for parents and children to familiarize themselves with our staff and facilities.

Health and Safety:

At Growing Minds Christian Academy, the health and safety of our students and staff are top priorities. Daily temperature checks will be conducted a drop off each day. If your child has a fever over 100.4, they will not be able to stay for the day.

To help prevent the spread of illness and ensure a safe environment, we ask that families follow the guidelines below.

When to Keep Your Child Home

Please keep your child home if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.4°F or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
  • Vomiting or diarrhea (must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning)
  • Persistent cough or difficulty breathing
  • Green or yellow nasal discharge accompanied by other symptoms
  • Rash with fever or unexplained cause
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Head lice or nits (may return after treatment)
  • Any contagious illness (e.g., strep throat, flu, COVID-19, RSV, chickenpox, etc.)

Return to School Guidelines

A child may return to school when:

  • They have been symptom-free for 24 hours without medication
  • They have completed 24 hours of antibiotic treatment for bacterial infections (if applicable)
  • They have a written clearance from a doctor (in some cases)

Notification of Illness

Please notify the school as soon as possible if your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness. This allows us to inform other families (without identifying your child) and take necessary precautions.

Illness at School

If a child becomes ill during the school day:

  • Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately and must arrange for pick-up within one hour
  • The child will be kept comfortable and away from other students until picked up

Medication: We will only administer medication with a signed authorization form from the parent/guardian and a physician (when required). Medications must be in the original container and labeled with the child’s name.

Children must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school after illness. Emergency contact info must be kept current.

Emergency Procedures: Your child’s safety is our top priority. Our staff is fully trained in first aid and CPR, and in emergency response. We conduct regular safety drills.

Behavior Policy:

At Growing Minds Christian Academy, we believe that discipline is a form of discipleship — an opportunity to guide children in love, helping them grow in character and self-control through the example of Christ.

Our Discipline Approach:

We use positive discipline strategies to redirect behavior and teach appropriate choices, including:

  • Modeling respectful behavior
  • Offering clear expectations and consistent routines
  • Encouraging problem-solving and communication
  • Praising positive behavior and growth
  • Providing calm, age-appropriate correction when needed

When a child exhibits inappropriate behavior:

  1. Verbal redirection will be used first.
  2. If behavior persists, the child may be removed from the activity briefly for reflection (not isolated).
  3. A staff member will speak with the child about their choices and how to make better ones next time.
  4. Repeated behaviors may result in a parent conference to collaborate on support strategies.

Physical punishment, yelling, shaming, or harsh discipline are never permitted.

We aim to help children understand:

  • How their actions affect others
  • How to express emotions in healthy ways
  • How to seek and offer forgiveness

“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.” — Proverbs 29:17
